The Philodendron Florida Ghost (Philodendron Pedatum x Squamiferum) is an unusual , an epiphytic evergreen hybrid developed by the late Florida Botanist Robert McColley at Bamboo Nurseries in the 1950's. ( this plant is very closely related to the P. Florida Beauty, also developed by Robert McColley )  It has long textured stems often pink and reddish  with new leaves that start out lighter before turning a solid deeper green after maturing.

This plant is notable for its finger like leaf shape that gets more ornamental and pronounced as the plant climbs and matures.

There is only one registered cultivar of the Florida Ghost but some are more white, cream, minty or yellow and this can vary greatly. We try to select the most colorful specimens to grow and propagate.

The Philodendron Florida Ghost can reach the height of several feet in cultivation, so we recommend adding a moss pole for it to grow nice and big.  This plant is a great choice for all spaces but its leaves can grow up to one foot in diameter as it climbs and matures.

Care Tips for growing Philodendron Florida Ghost

  • Philodendron Florida Ghost need about 6-10 hours of bright, indirect light to maintain its variegation. It can adapt to lower light conditions, but the white/yellow/cream colors in the leaves can fade if the light is too low.
  • Avoid placing it in direct sunlight, as this can scorch the leaves. The ideal location for this plant is in a west or east-facing room, about 2 – 3 feet away from the window.
  • Philodendron Florida Ghost doesn't require additional humidity. This plant absorbs most water through their root system rather than their leaves, so the best way to provide humidity for your plants is through watering the soil. This plant is pretty hardy and will be happy in most soil conditions, however we recommend a well draining soil to prevent possible issues.
  • Philodendron Florida Ghost thoroughly when top inch of soil is dry. Keep soil evenly moist, but not soggy.
  • Philodendrons thrive in warm temperatures of 65-80ºF
  • Philodendrons can be grown upright or in a hanging/trailing basket
