This is a beautiful hybrid created by us in 2023:

The mother plant in this cross is: an  Anthurium Forgetii that was selected  for showing a prominent closed sinus and dark velvety form.

The pollen donor is:  Anthurium  420 dark Magnificum , This plant's genetics were out of Florida ( we speculate that this could be a Tim Anderson creation). It was polinated on 4/20.

Anthurium ' 420 Dark Magnificum' is variation of Anthurium magnificum, which is known for its large, velvety, and heart-shaped leaves with prominent veining. Native to Colombia, Anthurium magnificum is part of the Araceae family and is primarily terrestrial. This species stands out due to its quadrangular petioles, a distinguishing feature among its kind. This was an Anthurium Magnificum we made in 2023, It was polinated on 4/20

Anthurium magnificum plants are admired for their impressive foliage, characterized by dark-green, leathery leaves that can range from 6 to 10 inches in length, with juvenile leaves often displaying burgundy shades. These plants are known to bloom throughout the year, producing well-developed bisexual flowers

Anthurium Growing Tips and Care

  • Anthuriums thrive in bright filtered light, but we recommend avoiding direct sunlight.
  • They appreciate nice humidity levels, but aren't too picky about humidity.
  • These plants would do best in a semi-coarse potting mix and we recommend letting the (roughly top 2") of soil media  dry on the top of the soil before watering.
  • We recommend potting in a well-draining, coarse, and slightly acidic potting soil with rich in organic matter and  suggest repotting this fast-growing anthurium every two to three years.
  • We advise cutting off yellowing or browning leaves as they appear to keep the plant looking tidy and to discourage pests.

Here are some more tips for caring for a velvety anthurium:

  • Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry.
  • Keep the soil just barely moist but not soggy.
  • Keep the plant in a spot that gets plenty of bright, indirect light but no direct sunshine.
  • Keep the plant in a warm room that's around 60f-85f away from draughts and radiators.
  • Keep the plant in a bathroom or conservatory to raise humidity.
  • Group plants together to help raise humidity.
  • water with diluted fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
  • Avoid temperature fluctuations.
  • Repot as needed to give room for roots to expand.
  • water more thoroughly in spring and summer, in winter season the velvet anthurium slows active growth.
  • If you see salts crusting on the soil surface, it's time to flush the soil.
  • Run a gentle stream of water through it for a few minutes to get rid of excess fertilizer
  • If the leaves start to yellow, brown, or wilt, this may be a sign of overwatering or underwatering.
