This is a beautiful hybrid created by us in 2023:

The Mother plant used in this cross is : An Indonesian Anthurium crystallinum

This Anthurium Crystallinum was selected  for its striking appearance,  notable for it's velvety texture and deep olive green color, sometimes taking on a deep maroon hue. A distinctive feature of this Anthurium crystallinum is the clear silver or pale green veins that stand out against the leaf's surface, creating an eye-catching sectioning and contrast.

The undersides of the leaves also display a unique coppery tone. As the leaves age, they undergo a change in appearance, adding to the plant's allure, with each leaf being uniquely patterned

The pollen donor is: The Anthurium Papillilaminum, from Ree Gardens, is a species native to Panama and is recognized for its dark green elongated cordate (heart-shaped) leaves that grow on shorter petioles. This plant is terrestrial and its natural habitat is limited to the coastal areas of Colón and Darién Provinces in Panama, and found across the range up to an altitude of 100 meters above sea level. It belongs to the section Cardiolonchium of the Anthurium genus, which is characterized by its velvet-like leaves, although unlike its relative Anthurium crystallinum, it doesn't have silver veins on its leaves.

Anthurium Growing Tips and Care

  • Anthuriums thrive in bright filtered light, but we recommend avoiding direct sunlight.
  • They appreciate nice humidity levels, but aren't too picky about humidity.
  • These plants would do best in a semi-coarse potting mix and we recommend letting the (roughly top 2") of soil media  dry on the top of the soil before watering.
  • We recommend potting in a well-draining, coarse, and slightly acidic potting soil with rich in organic matter and  suggest repotting this fast-growing anthurium every two to three years.
  • We advise cutting off yellowing or browning leaves as they appear to keep the plant looking tidy and to discourage pests.

Here are some more tips for caring for a velvety anthurium:

  • Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry.
  • Keep the soil just barely moist but not soggy.
  • Keep the plant in a spot that gets plenty of bright, indirect light but no direct sunshine.
  • Keep the plant in a warm room that's around 60f-85f away from draughts and radiators.
  • Keep the plant in a bathroom or conservatory to raise humidity.
  • Group plants together to help raise humidity.
  • water with diluted fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
  • Avoid temperature fluctuations.
  • Repot as needed to give room for roots to expand.
  • water more thoroughly in spring and summer, in winter season the velvet anthurium slows active growth.
  • If you see salts crusting on the soil surface, it's time to flush the soil.
  • Run a gentle stream of water through it for a few minutes to get rid of excess fertilizer
  • If the leaves start to yellow, brown, or wilt, this may be a sign of overwatering or underwatering.
