🌿 Anthurium (Papillilaminum 'Ree Gardens' / Hoffmannii 'Ree Gardens' [John Banta]) × A. portillae 'NSE Dewey Fisk Clone'

A distinctive cross blending the bold veining and velvety structure of Papillilaminum 'Ree Gardens' and Hoffmannii 'Ree Gardens'—a line originally developed by Florida plant explorer John Banta—with the sharply lobed form and matte green sheen of A. portillae 'NSE Dewey Fisk Clone'. This hybrid aims to integrate pronounced veining with an exaggerated, arrowhead-like silhouette.

    🌱 Emergent Leaf Coloration

We expect early foliage to emerge in rich bronze or reddish-olive tones, inherited from the seed donor, before maturing into deeper greens with silver-etched veining. Leaf texture will likely shift from supple to firm as the leaf hardens off.

    📏 Stature & Form

This hybrid is expected to produce a moderately upright growth habit, with slightly recurved posterior lobes, gently arched central ribs, and mid-weight leaf substance. The seed donor contributes velvety texture and flattened sinuses, while the pollen donor may elongate lobes and refine the outline.

    🧬 Breeding Notes

    • The seed donor (left in image) is a compound hybrid featuring Papillilaminum 'Ree Gardens' and Hoffmannii 'Ree Gardens', both of which offer robust venation and velvet texture.

    • Hoffmannii 'Ree Gardens' is a historically significant cultivar selected by John Banta, known for its ornamental leaf shape and bronze emergent tones.

    • The pollen donor, A. portillae 'NSE Dewey Fisk Clone', introduces elongation, curvature, and a uniquely matte green presentation.

    • This cross was developed to explore contrast-heavy veining, improved lobe separation, and predictable red-toned emergent coloration for future breeding applications.
