Anthurium Growing Tips and Care
- Anthuriums thrive in bright filtered light, but we recommend avoiding direct sunlight.
- They appreciate nice humidity levels, but aren't too picky about humidity.
- These plants would do best in a semi-coarse potting mix and we recommend letting the (roughly top 2") of soil media dry on the top of the soil before watering.
- We recommend potting in a well-draining, coarse, and slightly acidic potting soil with rich in organic matter and suggest repotting this fast-growing anthurium every two to three years.
- We advise cutting off yellowing or browning leaves as they appear to keep the plant looking tidy and to discourage pests.
Here are some more tips for caring for a velvety anthurium:
- Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry.
- Keep the soil just barely moist but not soggy.
- Keep the plant in a spot that gets plenty of bright, indirect light but no direct sunshine.
- Keep the plant in a warm room that's around 60f-85f away from draughts and radiators.
- Keep the plant in a bathroom or conservatory to raise humidity.
- Group plants together to help raise humidity.
- water with diluted fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
- Avoid temperature fluctuations.
- Repot as needed to give room for roots to expand.
- water more thoroughly in spring and summer, in winter season the velvet anthurium slows active growth.
- If you see salts crusting on the soil surface, it's time to flush the soil.
- Run a gentle stream of water through it for a few minutes to get rid of excess fertilizer
- If the leaves start to yellow, brown, or wilt, this may be a sign of overwatering or underwatering.
