This is a beautiful hybrid created by us in 2023:

The mother plant in this cross is: The Doc Block Purple F2 that expresses a beautiful dark purple emergent that goes to a black to a very dark green with big silver veins and textured leaf.

________________________________________________________________________________________

The pollen donor is: A. Luxurians , the genetics we used exhibits  a wider sinus and very dark leaf color.

Anthurium luxurians, also known as the Quilted Heart Anthurium, is a unique and dramatic species within the Anthurium genus. It features dark bronze-green foliage with extremely thick leaves, distinguishing it from other Anthurium species with its quilted texture and robust appearance

This is an exciting new Hybrid that we made earlier this year between two very special Anthuriums. The small seedlings are already showing some interesting characteristics.  The leaves are a beautiful silver / blue glaucous color with a dark emergent that is showing some purple hues in some plants. Will be a very interesting plant to watch grow and observe the leaf morphology change from seedling to adult.

  • You will receive a seedling from the trays in pictures 3-4
  • Ships in 2.5" pot , from our nursery in New Orleans LA. This is not a Tissue Cultured Plant.

Anthurium Growing Tips and Care

  • Anthuriums thrive in bright filtered light, but we recommend avoiding direct sunlight.
  • They appreciate nice humidity levels, but aren't too picky about humidity.
  • These plants would do best in a semi-coarse potting mix and we recommend letting the (roughly top 2") of soil media  dry on the top of the soil before watering.
  • We recommend potting in a well-draining, coarse, and slightly acidic potting soil with rich in organic matter and  suggest repotting this fast-growing anthurium every two to three years.
  • We advise cutting off yellowing or browning leaves as they appear to keep the plant looking tidy and to discourage pests.

Here are some more tips for caring for a velvety anthurium:

  • Water when the top 2 inches of soil are dry.
  • Keep the soil just barely moist but not soggy.
  • Keep the plant in a spot that gets plenty of bright, indirect light but no direct sunshine.
  • Keep the plant in a warm room that's around 60f-85f away from draughts and radiators.
  • Keep the plant in a bathroom or conservatory to raise humidity.
  • Group plants together to help raise humidity.
  • water with diluted fertilizer monthly during the growing season.
  • Avoid temperature fluctuations.
  • Repot as needed to give room for roots to expand.
  • water more thoroughly in spring and summer, in winter season the velvet anthurium slows active growth.
  • If you see salts crusting on the soil surface, it's time to flush the soil.
  • Run a gentle stream of water through it for a few minutes to get rid of excess fertilizer
  • If the leaves start to yellow, brown, or wilt, this may be a sign of overwatering or underwatering.
